Germany Gets GITEX: At GITEX Global Conference which just concluded in Dubai last week, the event team announced that their second overseas venture of the GITEX brand would be a European show, taking place in Berlin in 2025. GITEX EUROPE will debut from 21-23 May 2025 following the successful launch of GITEX AFRICA Morocco in May 2023. The expansion is a key step in the organization’s goal to become “the influential nexus bridging the future of economies in key regions, including Dubai, Africa, and now Europe.”
Aspen Agenda Assistance: A couple of weeks ago, The Aspen Ideas Festival named editor, journalist and author Tina Brown as their first ever guest curator, involved in developing all aspects of the event’s agenda. Their announcement noted that as the event’s first external curator, “Brown will lend us her expertise in identifying the critical challenges impacting our world today and the compelling speakers who are addressing them.” The Festival team also mentioned that in this role, “she will work closely with the Aspen Institute’s Public Programs team led by Killeen Brettmann and NBCUniversal News Group.” The Ideas Festival will return to Aspen from 23-29 June 2024.
Speaking Opportunity: WiCyS is a community of women, men, non-binary, allies and advocates who work to fill the cybersecurity workforce shortage by amplifying efforts to recruit, retain and advance women in cybersecurity. They are now seeking speaker proposals for their 2024 conference, which runs from 11-13 April 2024 in Nashville. If you are interested in suggesting a presentation, panel, workshop, lightning talk or Bird of a Feather session, do so before the 6 November deadline. Lunchtime Learning: SXSW recently held its inaugural event in Australia when SXSW Sydney wrapped earlier this week. If you couldn’t make it in person down under, you can still check out many of the speaker highlights by browsing the SXSW Sydney channel on YouTube. Sessions here covered everything from AI, Asian cooking and sports to quantum physics, human sexuality, and venture capital funding.

AFROTECH Conference spotlights Black tech innovators from organizations like AT&T, Microsoft, Salesforce, Google, and ServiceNow when it’s held 1-5 November in Austin. BusinessGreen’s annual Net Zero Festival is dedicated to exploring, advancing, and celebrating the global transition to a net zero emission economy. Net Zero is held 31 October – 1 November at the Business Design Centre in London. Finally, one of the largest applied data science conferences in the world, Open Data Science Conference/ODSC & Expo kicks off 30 October as a hybrid event, with in-person programming at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco. Note that while some trainings are held in-person and others virtually, the sessions held at the Hyatt won’t be livestreamed.
