Falling for Semafor: After another successful Spring World Economy Summit last month, media company Semafor announced that it would be returning to Washington D.C. just prior to the IMF/World Bank fall meetings for an autumn edition of the event. The spring gathering hosted a strong speaker lineup including New York Federal Reserve Bank Chief John Williams, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, JPMorgan President Daniel Pinto, Verizon SVP, Public Policy & Government Affairs Kathy Grillo, H&R Block President & CEO Jeff Jones, and Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. The Fall World Economy Summit will be held on 24 – 25 October and again showcase the most influential economic and business decision makers in the world as they discuss the state of the global economic landscape. More information will be posted here in the coming weeks.
SXSW Lands in London: Earlier this week, the team behind SXSW announced that they would be expanding to a second international market. In June 2025, SXSW London will take place in Shoreditch, in east London which is known for creativity, innovation and culture. According to official announcement, “SXSW London will introduce boundary-pushing visual arts, design, and fashion programming” which will happen alongside the keynotes, immersive experiences and music acts typically found at the Austin event. Jann Baskett, Co-President and Chief Brand Officer of SXSW noted, “Following the success of SXSW Sydney, this is an incredible new opportunity to highlight the elements that make SXSW unique in one of the most vibrant cities in Europe. We look forward to forming deeper connections with our overseas community and bringing the conversations that start in Austin all the way to London.” Speaker Strategies will share more on the dates and conference agenda development process in future newsletters.
Submission Opportunity: HLTH began six years ago, created to gather the full healthcare ecosystem and identify the best strategies, systems, and technologies that help people lead a healthier, longer life. Scheduled for 20-23 October in Las Vegas, HLTH 2024 is now accepting speaker proposals until the end of May. Before crafting your topic, be sure to carefully review the submission guidelines. Did you speak at HLTH in 2022 or 2023? If so, you are not eligible to speak again until 2025 – unless you wish to be considered as a moderator. Each person may submit just one proposal, and any one company can have up to two speakers on the agenda (so limit to submitting four at a maximum, since HLTH will not review more proposals than that from one organization). Want to speak on a panel? Be aware that HLTH builds diverse panels internally and does not accept session ideas with multiple panelists. They advise that if you are picky about who you speak alongside, it is best to choose another format.
Conference Manager Q&A: The International Broadcasting Convention, better known as IBC, has evolved from its technical broadcast roots and today encompasses the whole breadth of global media creation management and delivery. As Group Content Lead for IBC, Sally Watts shared a glimpse of what speakers and attendees can expect from the agenda this year.
Speaker Strategies: IBC 2024 is scheduled for 13-16 September in Amsterdam. Are you doing anything differently at the 2024 conference? The IBC Conference is scaling back up to three days for 2024, and we will continue to build on our core content pillars: Shifting Business Models, Transformative Tech, and People & Purpose. Growing back to three days enables us to develop a wider ranging programme of sessions, designed to address all of the current challenges in the ever-evolving media and broadcast landscape. We’re also working to deliver a structured programme of networking opportunities for delegates.
Speaker Strategies: What are the main themes you are focusing on this year? For 2024 we’ll be focusing our conference content around to answer questions such as: How is AI reshaping the business of broadcast? How can we build a future ready tech stack to support new business and operating models? What does emerging technology mean for live sports broadcasting post Paris Olympics? How can the industry fight fake news and disinformation? And finally, what are the winning monetization strategies for streaming services? The conference will also include the IBC Technical Papers Programme which features original, novel research on solutions to real-world problems faced by the international broadcast and digital media industry.
Speaker Strategies: What is the most important piece of a successful presentation abstract/topic description? Keep it short and to the point. Delegates need to be able to quickly get a clear and accurate picture of what they will hear and learn within the session, without having to read a large amount of copy. An eye-catching and engaging title helps as well. And no sales pitches!
Coming Up Next Week: From the team that runs Women of Silicon Roundabout and European Women in Tech comes Women in Tech DC, held 15-16 May at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. At Axios BFD San Francisco (14 May), invited delegates will hear from Google’s Chief Health Officer, CEO & Co-founder of DataBricks, and Yahoo’s CEO. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Building Resilience Conference runs 15-17 May in DC, convening business, government, and nonprofits to “share good ideas, plan for the unexpected, and solve problems together.” Bloomberg will hold its fourth Qatar Economic Forum to explore how entities in the Gulf region are strategically deploying wealth to enhance their global influence, diversify economies, and gain international prominence. The next wave of 5G deployment is center stage at Connect(X), which kicks off 14 May in Atlanta, spotlighting the “partner ecosystem that enables ubiquitous communications between people, devices, machines and tool.” And at Reuters Digital Health USA (14-15 May; San Diego), CIOs, CTOs, and other digital executives from healthcare systems can join with 300 peers to realize the vast potential of patient centric, digitally enabled care.
